Americana

Americana was a project where I designed a skirt and a Blouse inspired by the ulsters Scots, with a little house on the Prairie feel. Through out this project I took it to experiment with fabric manipulation and experimented with smocking, shirring, Cornish puffs etc. When I finally set on Shirring and created this ensemble with clashing fabrics (Tartan, Hessian, Gingham and Floral) so you would get a real feel of the make do and mend, as the ulster Scots would not have a choice in which fabrics they would use, however they were very skilled at needlework and I thought the shirring would tie in with this idea.
