In my final collection I have designed a luxury high fashion collection made
from suiting’s and tweeds. I would like to use a variety of tweeds and
semi-plain cloth’s to create excitement by mixing pattern and texture. I love
the mix of traditional weave construction with new and unusual yarn. I want to
use the idea of traditional fabrics but weaving ribbon through it, as it
will combine the safety wear of riding with the more traditional colour themes. Lately i keep getting told i need to know the characteristics of fabric and what fabric can be used for what garment. I am the first to admit i know nothing about fabrics however i am learning slowly... So today i tried my hand at some weaving to begin a better understanding of fabric.
It was great fun, first of all we were shown the loom which had the warp set up and i created the weft by threading through different types of yarns, ribbons, braiding, feathers and fabrics have a look at the end result below.
Throughout the day i made 3 large samples and in doing so i tried my hand at various types of weave such as plain, twill, hopsack [or hopscotch as i was calling it' wasn't obvious atoll that the fashion people knew nothing haha]
It was a very productive day in learning a new technique
