Mare Machines

As you probably already know i am in the middle of making my final collection "Mare Machines

In my collection I want to juxtapose the idea of the classical 19th century riding habit with modern day endurance riding. I am creating a high fashion 6-piece collection. The silhouette is mostly inspired by the Victorian era however I still want to keep the practicalities and functionalities of Modern day riding wear. Also incorporating OS maps and the bright colours they use through tack and safety wear in endurance riding. I want to use a variety of tweeds, leather and semi-plain cloth’s to create excitement by mixing pattern and texture.  Creating a sharp, chic and confident look.

I have been toiling like a maddy so i would just like to give you a sneak peak of what i have been up to.

Fawnd Of...

So Breaking news which came out this week...

Two of my Close friends Toni Roddie and Emma Noble founders of "Fawnd Off.." launched there collection on ASOS Market place. They have created a simple yet edgy collection of coloured studded wooly jumpers to keep you cosy for the coming winter months, a quirky printed t-shirts with the head of a stag on it with a ginger moustache (just to be different) and beautful moth printed peach skin dresses. All the prints were a collaboration with textile designer Iain MacDonald. And its selling out quick so get on it to get your one off pieces from "Fawnd Of.."

What one are you Fawnd of???

Weaving

In my final collection I have designed a luxury high fashion collection made from suiting’s and tweeds. I would like to use a variety of tweeds and semi-plain cloth’s to create excitement by mixing pattern and texture. I love the mix of traditional weave construction with new and unusual yarn. I want to use the idea of traditional fabrics but weaving ribbon through it, as it will combine the safety wear of riding with the more traditional colour themes. Lately i keep getting told i need to know the characteristics of fabric and what fabric can be used for what garment. I am the first to admit i know nothing about fabrics however i am learning slowly... So today i tried my hand at some weaving to begin a better understanding of fabric.

It was great fun, first of all we were shown the loom which had the warp set up and i created the weft by threading through different types of yarns, ribbons, braiding, feathers and fabrics have a look at the end result below.

Throughout the day i made 3 large samples  and in doing so i tried my hand at various types of weave such as plain, twill, hopsack [or hopscotch as i was calling it' wasn't obvious atoll that the fashion people knew nothing haha]

It was a very productive day in learning a new technique
